Sony Classical has confirmed that it will be releasing a recording of the 2014 New Year’s Day Concert from the Vienna Philharmonic, which will be conducted by Daniel Barenboim. A seasonal institution in the classical music world – along with, in its very different way, the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols from King’s College, Cambridge – the annual celebration of the music composed by members of the Strauss dynasty and their contemporaries has welcomed a prestigious roster of famous conductors to the Musikverein podium in its 75-year-long history. Barenboim previously conducted the event in 2009, and his return next year celebrates a quarter century of collaboration between him and the orchestra. Sony Classical will be issuing its recording on January 13 – the third year in a row that Sony Classical has released the concert – on CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, Vinyl, digital download and digital longform video formats.
