London’s Wigmore Hall is launching a new television series of chamber music broadcasts on Sky Arts 2. Featuring such artists as Iestyn Davies, Marc-André Hamelin, the Takács Quartet, Ralph Kirschbaum, Sarah Connolly, Graham Johnson and Stile Antico, the performances have been recorded live in HD on the Wigmore Hall stage to make the viewing experience as authentic as possible.
The series begins on Monday, August 12 at 8pm with a performance of Brahms’s Piano Sonata No 3 by Marc-André Hamelin, who is also interviewed about the work.
Broadcasts continue for seven consecutive weeks with the Takács Quartet and cellist Ralph Kirschbaum in Schubert’s String Quintet (Aug 19); mezzo Sarah Connolly and pianist Malcolm Martineau (Aug 26); countertenor Iestyn Davies, lutenist Thomas Dunford and viol player Jonathan Manson (Sept 2); the Takács Quartet in Beethoven’s String Quartet, Op 131 (Sept 9); Stile Antico and Fretwork (Sept 16); and soprano Ailish Tynan, mezzo Sarah Connolly, tenors Mark Padmore, Ben Johnson and Robin Tritschler, baritones Christopher Maltman and Benjamin Appl, and pianist Graham Johnson in Schubert songs (Sept 23).
