The prestigious German classical music awards held by ECHO Klassik has named young French lyric-coloratura soprano Sabine Devieilhe 2014 Newcomer of the Year for her album of Rameau arias,Le Grand Théâtre de l’Amour.

The announcement comes just days before the 250th anniversary of Rameau’s death. Critics at BBC Music Magzine, too, praised the soprano’s contribution to the Rameau Year celebrations: “Devieilhe has a clear, flexible voice with easy high notes. She’s an agile, expressive and stylish singer… Delightful from start to finish, this is a stunning debut disc.”
