Claudio Abbado (born June 26, 1933 ) is an Italian conductor. Abbado has performed and recorded a wide range of Romantic works, the interpretation of the Second Symphony is his first recording of a Schumann symphony for DG, and the album is for his 80th birthday. The noble Genoveva and stirring Manfred overtures are exalted additions to this album.
