Angelika Kirchschlager   is an Austrian mezzo-soprano opera and lieder singer, now resides in Vienna. She and pianist Julius Drake for their disc of Liszt songs on Hyperion came out top in the Vocal field of this year. This second volume of Hyperion’s 2012 lieder series features the great dramatic and musical gifts of mezzo-soprano Angelika Kirchschlager accompanied by the multi-Gramophone Award-winning Julius Drake. The songs recorded here encompass thirty years of Liszt’s life, with texts in German, French and Italian, and contain many examples of the hidden beauties of this undervalued and unknown strand of the composer’s works.
