Orlando furioso RV 819 (Teatro San Angelo, Venice 1714) is an opera surviving in manuscript in Vivaldi’s personal library, only partly related to his better known Orlando furioso (RV 728) of 1727. For many years the opera was thought to be by his contemporary Giovanni Alberto Ristori and only two of the work’s three Acts survive. This recording on the Naïve label is performed by the ensemble Modo Antiquo and conducted by Federico Maria Sardelli, soprano Roberta Mameli performs the aria. The recording was given five stars in the March issue of BBC Music Magazine. This is one of the most rewarding performances in the Naïve Vivaldi opera survey.
