The young French cellist Edgar Moreau has been awarded the Arthur Waser Award by the Arthur Waser Foundation and the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra. The prize includes a gift of CHF 25,000 and a debut performance with the Lucerne Symphony on their home turf.
Edgar Moreau can already look back on a number of exceptional achievements: among them becoming the winner of the Second Prize in Russias formidable Tchaikovsky Competition at age 17, winning the Young Soloist Prize in the 2009 Rostropovich Cello Competition in Paris, and performing with many distinguished musicians.
Moreau signed to Erato as an exclusive artist at the age of 19, and his debut album of virtuoso encores and lyrical pieces, Play, was released last year. Gramophone praised his “gift for mellifluous line with a sparkle and a spirited rhythmic impetus”, as well as his “mature tone, lyrical polish and romantic leanings”.
