Pianist and conductor Andras Schiff is one of the many classical figures to be honoured in the 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours, leading the way with a knighthood for services to music. Fellow musicians including John Berry, Artistic Director of English National Opera, and Susan Bullock, Soprano, are to be awarded a CBE, alongside OBE recipients Janis Susskind and Victoria Sharp. Among those to be awarded an MBE are classical artist managers Martin Campbell-White and Robbert Rattray, Marion Friend from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Martin Binks, conductor of Leeds Symphony Orchestra and Andrew Penny, conductor of Hull Philharmonic Orchestra. Other well-known names being honoured include Daniel Day-Lewis, who is to be awarded a knighthood, Chorlotte Edwards (CBE) and the late Stephen Sutton (MBE). In total, 1149 people have been recommended to the Queen for an award.
