Cellist Julian Lloyd Webber has received the prestigious Distinguished Musician Award from the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) for his many musical achievements and for his dedicated work in the field of music education.
The ISM, the leading professional body for musicians and music educators, was inspired by Lloyd Webber’s passionate advocacy for the education of young people from challenging areas and his campaigning work which has made significant difference to British musical life.
Lloyd Webber said: “I am hugely honoured to accept this award. I have never wavered in my belief that music is for everyone and I will continue trying to bring it to as many people as possible.”
Past recipients of the award, established in 1976, include famous names such as Dame Janet Baker, Pierre Boulez, Jacqueline du Pre, Sir William Walton, Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and Sir Antonio Pappano.
