Martha Argerich (born June 5, 1941 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is an Argentine pianist. Argerich rose to international prominence when she won the seventh International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 1965, at age 24. In 1965, she debuted in the United States in the Lincoln Center’s Great Performers Series. In the same year, she also made her first recording, including works by Chopin, Brahms, Ravel, Prokofiev, and Liszt, which received critical acclaim. Now Martha Argerich has been consistently acclaimed as one of the greatest pianists of the post-war era. With a repertoire ranging from Bach to Bartok, though with a special emphasis on Romantic and early modernist works, she has produced a huge range of recordings. The Presto Classical is offering discounts of up to 35% off a range of her finest recordings on EMI >>>
