Wolfgang Sawallisch born in Munich in 1923, died Friday 22 February 2013. He began his career at the opera house in Augsburg after World War II. In 1957 he made his debut a youngest conductor at the Bayreuth Festspielhaus. He left his stamp on the Bayreuth Festiva, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, La Scala in Milan and Tokyo’s NHK Orchestra, and acclaimed for his musical brilliance and unpretentious leadership of the Bavarian State Opera and the Philadelphia Orchestra for decades.
