Antonio Pappano (born 30 December 1959) is a British conductor and pianist. His first conducting appearance at Den Norske Opera was in 1987, and he became music director there in 1990. Now he was named Conductor of the Year at the inaugural International Opera Awards. “It’s a great honour to receive the Conductor of the Year award. Especially so that I can give the lions share of the credit where it belongs, to my wondrous orchestra at the Royal Opera House,” Antonio said, “They combine great musicianship and imagination with a rare dramatic flare which makes my job an absolute joy. Bravo too, to my esteemed colleagues in the conductors category; an awesome group.”
